ESV

Ayin
121 I have done what is just and right; do not leave me to my oppressors.
122 Give your servant a pledge of good; let not the insolent oppress me.
123 My eyes long for your salvation and for the fulfillment of your righteous promise.
124 Deal with your servant according to your steadfast love, and teach me your statutes.
125 I am your servant; give me understanding, that I may know your testimonies!
126 It is time for the Lord to act, for your law has been broken.
127 Therefore I love your commandments above gold, above fine gold.
128 Therefore I consider all your precepts to be right; I hate every false way.

Meditation 默想

I wanted to get your interpretation of “fail for” in verse 123 “Mine eyes fail for thy salvation, and for the word of thy righteousness.” (KJV) or “My eyes strain to see your rescue” (NLT).

ESV translated it as my eyes “long for” your salvation. The Chinese version puts it this way: I long for your salvation and your righteous word to the extent that my eyes turn to the blind.

What was the meaning of “fail for” in the KJV time?

What is the real meaning of this verse?

verse 116 says this: “Lord, sustain me as you promised, that I may live! Do not let my hope be crushed.” (NLT)

I am wondering verse 123 falls in line with verse 116. The context of author’s crying out for God’s help (salvation) flows through this psalm. “My eyes fail for your salvation” could be portraited as if the man was weeping in desperate, he was patiently holding his hope to God to the extent that his eyes ran dry and turned to blind.

诗篇 13:1-3 耶和华啊,你忘记我要到几时呢?要到永远吗?你掩面不顾我要到几时呢?我心里筹算,终日愁苦,要到几时呢?我的仇敌升高压制我,要到几时呢?耶和华我的神啊,求你看顾我,应允我!使我眼目光明,免得我沉睡至死;

It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.
